RE: (TV) OT: Richard Thompson @ Toronto Bluesfest

Reviews on the RT list have been very positive; I'm seeing him July 23 at Lupo's in Providence. (Before that show was announced, however, I bought three tickets for the July 22 Boston show at the Berklee School. If anyone's interested in those tickets, let me know; I'll be glad to sell them for what I paid for them [on Ticketmaster, alas].) Particularly kick-ass versions of "Can't Win" have been reported. It may be of interest to some that the touring band this time does not include Danny Thompson, who needed some minor surgery (that reportedly went well). Instead, Rory (aka Ruari) MacFarlane, who's played with RT in the past, is on bass. The drummer this time round is a newcomer to the band, Earl Harvin, who's played with The The and Seal in the past, among others. He's reportedly just fine.

With respect to live recordings, RT seems at last to have embraced the possibilities. He's been selling "More Guitar," a recording from a show in 1988, both at shows and on his web site (http://www.richardthompson-music.com/), and reportedly a recording from a show or shows earlier on the current tour will soon be available at upcoming shows.

He has been touring & promoting Old Kit Bag extensively. AFAIK most of
the shows have been recorded and are in circulation. The couple I've
heard are excellent.
