It may seem difficult if you're not familiar with it, but there's not 
too much trouble you can get into in learning to solder, as long as 
you're not eating while you do it, wash your hands afterwards, don't 
snort the smoke, and don't pick up the business end while it's still 
hot.  Oddly, plenty of guys don't follow those rules.  Also, plenty 
of guys don't know how to solder at all.  I was probably lucky 
growing up doing little electronics projects--it sure came in handy 
when I started buying cheap guitars.  Still, it's empowering to know 
how to do these things.
