ya know, just as an aside....i recently heard perhaps the worst ever version
of "satisfaction" by the chick in cat power...(she does this covers record
where she actually works up equally banal/narcoleptic versions of other
hip choice tracks, like moby grape's "naked if i want to"...at least she's
got good taste).
she sings it in a monotone drugged whimper, thoroughly robbing the
song of its actual insurrectionist impulses...
she comes on like a suburban junkie begging you for just one more hit,
or else she's gotta go & move back in with mom & dad....
