(TV) Crow, the other white meat (was: Re: The myth of Audiophilus)

Ah, vinyl indeed. One of the advantages of working from home is that I was able to pull it out and give it a spin, and...it sounds a _lot_ better than I was remembering. It is indeed a gorgeous release--"Five Miles of You," and "Travelling" are thrilling, and the layering of guitars throughout is wonderful. The basses sound great, too. (There is a weird spike on JD's snare on "Five Miles of You," but I'm not letting it ruin things for me.)

I think my negative reactions have to do with "O Foolish Heart," which is a favorite song of mine, but the drum machine does bug me, and there _is_ a lot of sibilance on every word starting with s. I think with the arrangement so sparse and with the close listening I've done to that song, I couldn't help noticing those less-than-perfect things.

So I take it back, everything I said about _Cover_ being badly produced. I still stand by the REM comments, though. Those strings are awful.

Best,
Maurice

Really! I'm going to have to give it another spin, then. It's been
a while, although I went through a period when I played it
constantly. Are you thinking of the vinyl (which is what I have) or
the CD?

Maurice - how can you ask?! Vinyl of course!
