(TV) Why Television Brroke Up

The way I've always heard it, there were two reasons why Television
broke up. Tom wanted to try a less "jazzy" sound, meaning a more
rock-oriented drummer. Also,Tom was extremely concerned about Richard
Lloyd's health. Richard had been in the hospital during the recording of
"Adventure". He almost died from an  inflammation of the heart caused by
injecting drugs. This has been well-documented and Richard would be the
first to admit that he went through a difficult time and that he's
completely sober now. Tom's own brother was struggling with heroin
addiction at the time. He died in 1984. Having two addicts close to him
was too much for Tom to handle, He decided to take a break from
Television.
