For me it was the Little Johnny Jewel single that did it.  I first caught TV
in CB's shortly after Marquee Moon came out.  I also had the privilege of
seeing their "Blow Up" show at My Father's Place (my home turf), and one of
their "final" gigs at the Bottom Line.
