Richard Hell gave them the name.  the essay i wrote for the tribute cd gives
more info.  i don't have a link, but i am sure someone can give you one.  By
the way, I think it's a brilliant name.

Is it just me, or has anyone else ever wondered why they named the group 
Television?  Was it just because TV= Tom Verlaine's initials?  Has anyone 
ever thought that the name Television was a stupid name for a band?
