Re: (TV) Speaking of MOJO...

Nice to see. Mojo is terrific - they followed their Television piece last month
with a good piece on the Pixies (another fave of mine) this month.

I think they did this ranking (by critics) back in 1996 or 1997, because I
remember that they followed it with a "fan-rated Top 100" and REVOLVER beat PET
SOUNDS. They called Paul McCartney to congratulate him on being #1, and he made
some funny comments about "I'm not sure how much worth these ratings have -
wasn't REVOLVER number #3 a few weeks ago?" and then said he bought ASTRAL
WEEKS as a result of the Mojo list and found it 'odd'... a funny phone
interview.

Placing MARQUEE MOON near the Beatles' White Album and FUN HOUSE seems fair,
although - here's a Molotov cocktail for the conversation - after years of
listening to it, I've decided that HORSES really isn't that good and DOES get
overrated. Other than "Gloria", the album really isn't exceptional, and I'm not
sure that I find any Patti Smith album really compelling, except perhaps GONE
AGAIN and a handful of individual songs (the first single, a few tracks on each
album, etc).

Anyhow, my bias probably doesn't need to be stated, but if any New Wave-era
band is gonna get the #10 slot on this list, it should be TV, not PS.
