(TV) Howard's Shepherds Bush report

Omigosh! what can I say? I have just got back from the gig.

firstly, it was really wonderful to meet fellow list members - Nick, Sam,
Dennis, Leif, Ray and Keith & Tania. We looked for Andy but couldn't see
him. I also met Bibi Farber and Chris Butler.

The support act, David Kitt, just passed me by. I wasn't paying attention
at all.
I had a nice seat but when Television started playing I had to stand up and
move. I found a nice place to stand on a balcony about 20 feet away from
Richard.
They were on fire tonight. The acoustics of the venue were superb and
Television were playing as one tight unit. Man of the match for me was
Billy Ficca. I got the impression that all of them, including Tom, were
really having a great time. Tom joked at one point: "Usually someone calls
out for Richard Hell". Richard and Tom traded solos just like the old days.
Oh God, I hope someone taped it! Here's the set list:

1880 or So
This Tune
Venus
Beauty Trip
Little Johnny Jewel (about 6-8 minutes, absolutely MONSTER!)
See No Evil
No Glamour For Willy
Call Mr Lee
Rocket
Rhyme
Marquee Moon
encore:
Prove It
Glory

total time - about 1 hour 45 minutes.
Notice the set list is exactly the same as the Camber Sands show, but Prove
It & Glory were reversed. I suspect the Dublin and Chicago shows will also
have this set list. Those who went to Camber Sands said the Shepherds Bush
show was miles better.
After the show Keith took me aside and said he'd try to get me backstage. I
said goodbye to my companions (none of them list members, but after tonight
I'm sure they are big fans) and went to the after show "party" in the bar.
No sign of TV, but someone said we could go to the dressing room, so me,
Keith, Tania, Bibi and Chris Butler went to the room. There was no-one
there but us and Television! I chatted to Fred for a while - he told me
about the Piccadilly Inn show among other things. He said they had done
three rehearsals for this tour, but they didn't practice hard (it didn't
show). Fred said he'd be happy to do more shows. I asked about the NY show,
he said they weren't sure about it, Fred seemed to think a NY show would
happen in the Fall. Billy was very friendly and laid back, Richard was cool
and he even knew my surname when I was introduced to him. He was chatty and
funny, very likeable. I think I hugged him when I met him instead of
shaking his hand.
I shook Tom's hand and said thanks. He was obviously shy, but not at all
cold to me, and we exchanged a few pleasantries. He wasn't keen on
socialising and spent most of the time in a little room to the side which
seemed out of bounds. I really wanted to talk more to him, but I was a bit
over-awed.
I left after a short time, I was very overwhelmed by the whole experience.
I probably would have burst into tears had I stayed longer.
Tomorrow's gig in Dublin will be a scorcher. If you have a chance of seeing
them in Chicago, do not pass it up. You will not regret it if you go.
