Re: (TV) Most overrated albums of all time?

Folks,

Boy ... do I *not* fit on this list in a lot of ways ...

Overrated (by various folks, granted) ...

The Who - WHO'S NEXT, TOMMY & QUADROPHENIA
The Beatles - SGT. PEPPER
The Clash - LONDON CALLING

I can't believe I'm having to actually *defend* these!

SGT. PEPPER - The *only* way I can see this as "overrated" is because it so
routinely tops #1 all-time album lists. And that hardly seems to fit the term.

WHO'S NEXT and TOMMY - Landmark, innovative, classic albums. I find it
stunning to think that someone would listen to something like "Song Is Over"
and not get goosebumps.

LONDON CALLING is, as Philip noted, the only Clash album I've ever loved
top-to-bottom. I like a lot of their stuff, but LONDON CALLING is just
masterful, start to finish.

And QUADROPHENIA (my personal #1) is, I think, the best attempt at catching
the Who's dazzling power in a studio setting. Yeah, the story line is
sketchy, but the raw power (apologies, Ig) of the sound absolutely blows my
mind, each and every time I listen.

Wow ... I think I'm just on a different wavelength!

PS: I own *every* ELO album (putting ELDORADO on my top 20) and was
phenominally disappointed to see their US tour cancelled. But Philip has a
good point: I hardly think anyone's "overrating" ELO. Heck ... they haven't
really even been popular in over 20 years!
