I concur with the n-track recommendation
I am now using Soundprobe for an audio editor.
Very similar to cooledit, but a my copy was free with last month's issue of
Computer Music.
I also picked up n-track that way.
Of course these are slightly older versions, and the vendors want you to buy
the latest and greatest upgrades,
but i find these tools sufficient.
