Yes, I have to agree you're right--guilty as
charged. I also see that I overreacted to
the responses to my original post.

Regarding the 3 new hypotheses: most of
second one, namely:
>....He's a has-been and knows it...his
>best work is behind him....
>Maybe the masses are right--maybe
>they're just a band who made
>marginally interesting music,
>an acquired taste, who appeal to a

is/was a 'strawman' (or "Null" hypothesis)
I concocted to try to get a reaction or 'rise'
out of people; I was hoping--praying actually--
someone would take the time to shoot it down.
I don't for a second believe it myself.
(I can almost hear some groans now,
"That was a cheap, sucky thing to do" or
"You can't have it both ways."

I agree with Dan about the superior quality of
the new TV song "Wicked Charms" (Dan, I'd still
like to get a copy of your Bowery Ballroom review
as I was never able to find that particular issue
of 'Wire').

However, I stand by my original:
>Tom Verlaine has no confidence in
>himself. He lost his a long time ago
>(egads, a musician can stand only so
>much commercial rejection and lack of
>financial success); time has passed
>him and Television by.
Mainly a strong hunch--my intuition
working overtime.

I'll have to go back and relisten to
"Travelling".

Thanks to everyone for the feedback.
I'll try and not be so touchy next time.
