(TV) Television in Edinburgh

Hi everyone,

The gig in edinburgh was great, the best gig i've been
to since Neil and Crazy Horse. Probably best gig ever.

They did the tuning thing, building up layers and
layers and then hitting big chords and bringing it
down again - (orgasmic) - it was ace and although you
could sense the crowd were like "Hurry up" I thought
it was a great way to start the gig - you can't come
on stage at the Liquid Rooms and go "boom", you have
to come on thru a side door and walk on in full view
of crowd.

1880 or so was first. They played Venus Prove it and
Marquee Moon - everything else was non MM material -
Beauty trip, Rhyme (song of the night for me),
psychotic reaction/Wild thing (sloppy but amusing),
Glory for the encore. No dreams dream though.

The new(?) song - is it Sleep all day? - was great.

Tom cracked a joke.

It went thus - Tom took off his coat (short, black zip
up affair) and said it into the mic "Have to take my
coat off, it's so hot in here".

"Nice Jumper tommy" yelled a heckler (A purple turtle
necked affair - outrageous really)

Tom bent over to place aformentioned outerwear on
floor, at which point another heckler yelled 

"Nice belt Tom"

Tom replied, grinning:

"I bought this belt 15 years ago in Glass-gouw" (love
how americans say scottish place names!)

Much boos from audience (remember this is edinburgh
and a reasonable amount of rivalry exists between east
and west - mostly to do with football and accents,
rather than anything worth getting angry about)

Tom replies to the booing, in deadpan style - 

"I wished i was here when i was buying it though."

He introduced the band at the encores, but that us
pretty much all he said.

My girlfriend didn't stop talking about Billy Ficca -
she thought he was incredible - I must admit he hit
the drums really hard, some folks on the list say jay
dee was a harder hitter and better as a result, but
billy really was muscular.

Saw Billy before gig but was not sure it was him -
doh!

Great gig though.
