(TV) OT: new music (was some mess about The Hives)

Let's not forget the new Wilco album (well, "new" in that it finally got
released after all this time). Folks, even if you've hated Wilco before,
consider giving Yankee Hotel Foxtrot a go, because they've shifted several
steps from their alt-rock pigeonhole. Gorgeous fucking album.

Incidentally, I'd also like to reccomend two bands that put out their debut
albums last year, but I myself had heard jack about them until recently.
First is this New York band called Liars (debut: They Threw Us All in a
Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top): essentially, it's really dancey,
frenetic stuff....clear post-punk influences, but it's a bit heavier at
points, a bit funkier at others, a bit more self-aware. The cd is awesome,
but see them live if you get the chance -you will not be disappointing. The
most exciting live band I've ever seen. The other band is Pilot to Gunner,
which has been touring the U.S.. I've heard them described as "a sort of
cross between Husker Du and Mission of Burma", but that's way off the mark.
Loud, high-velocity rock 'n' roll with breathing space...AND it's
intelligent. Their first full length is called Games at High Speeds.

Sadly, it seems that yes, 2002 is indeed the year of retreads. Anyone see the
latest hype? This regular ol' rock band called the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The lead
vocalist is apparently some run-of-the-mill "hot chick" who sneers really
good, moans and squeals orgasmically, and is being labeled as "the female
Iggy Pop". I certainly hope this description's not TOO on the money, because
I don't like what I've heard, and if she sticks around defying what would
logically be certain death ala Mr. Osterberg, we're all in a whole lot of
trouble...

AND, to get back on topic: has anyone so much as contacted Mr. Lloyd to
verify those statements he allegedly made about the live album in the works?
It was on the list maybe two weeks ago...
