Re: (TV) cute new bass player alert

I think Luna's first three LPs are all excellent - LUNAPARK, BEWITCHED, and
PENTHOUSE (on which Verlaine plays). I think the influence of the VU's 3rd LP
is much stronger than that of Television, personally, but I enjoy them greatly.
If I had to pick a favorite, I'd probably go with PENTHOUSE, but man, is it
close with BEWITCHED. And no, Verlaine isn't the deciding factor - I actually
don't think he adds that much to the record, although he does play on the
greatest Luna song ever ("23 Minutes In Brussels").

Sadly, I think the band has suffered diminishing returns over the most recent
three records (I couldn't even bring myself to buy the most recent LP, even
though I had loads of Luna rare 7", CD singles, etc.) as the original band has
dispersed, leaving Dean Wareham as a sole founding member.

They still do great shows, and in that respect, Britta Phillips was a nice
addition. She has a great voice (they can do a fantastic "Bonnie and Clyde" now
- originally a hidden track at the end of PENTHOUSE) and I agree, she's cute.
But the new material generally doesn't do it for me anymore. Somewhere along
the line, Wareham's lyrics slipped from obtuse and thoughtful to just silly.

Strange but true: Britta considered renting the extra room in my friend's
apartment last year, in the East Village. She passed on it, but shortly
afterwards the drummer from the Strokes moved in upstairs. She's got a website
at http://www.brittaphillips.com/ (but boy, did she choose an unflattering
photo for the background page).

Still enjoying the new Bowie record here too. Also playing lots of Pixies, my
interest fired-up by the archival release of those early demos last week.
