I just did some research on "Surfer Joe". It was the Surfaris' first
song. 1962. Three of the Surfaris were 15, the sax player was 13. The
drummer marched in the high school band. Today one of them tours with
his band and plays "Wipe Out" before trying to convert the audience to
born-again Christianity.

"Big Bad John" was the hero who died in a tragic mining accident.
Considered a country song, it made the Top Ten. Tom likes those story
songs.
