I've been wrong many a time before so------but I really think it's
a lot more than just ear piercing treble or bad equalization.
*We will probably never know how much TV was responsible for
(or how much input he had in) the selection of mixes,
and even more importantly for giving
instructions/guidance/suggestions/commands
to the engineer and 'masterer' of this cd
[can anyone on list ask TV sometime when he's in a good mood?].

I think that a substantial part of the problem is that this cd
was mixed/made to be too loud (i.e., "too compressed" ) and the
result is a sound with a loss of dynamic range and distortion of
some of the guitar (although strangely I don't hear the guitar
distorted in the usual sense of the word 'distorted', albeit I
haven't gotten a chance to listen with my new headphones yet).

Keith posted a great little article 10 days ago which I think sheds
a great deal of light on probably what happened to the Collectors'
Edition of the Tom Verlaine cd: http://www.prorec.com/prorec/articles.nsf/articles/

I urge you to read it if you haven't already.

Having said all that, I still think this version is
an interesting aural document **worth owning.** So if anyone
on MM list who **doesn't live in USA** and would like to avoid paying
some exorbitant postage charged to you by Collectors Edition folks,
then send me an e-mail [OFF-LIST] and "we'll" see if we can work out an
arrangement where I buy the cd for you, then I, BASED ON YOUR SPECIFIC
geographical locale, find out from my post-office how much it would cost to
mail it to you from Boston, Massachusetts, USA and if you agree this is
'reasonable' I'll mail you a copy, and then you reimburse me afterwards.

Why you may ask am I doing this?

1) I'm a nice guy;
2) I am really Tom Verlaine (there's no such person as Leo), and this way
   I get a better share of profits from Collector's Edition;
3) I figure only a few MM listers will be interested in this proposition;
4) I love these songs.
