(TV) 'Correct' Collector's Choice Verlaine Solo Debut: More than you'd ever want to know

Henry,

Sorry for the delay, regarding your question below:

I am 99.44% sure that there is no way to tell the
two versions of this cd apart by simply looking
for a difference in the Catalogue numbers.

I have both versions--one received in Sept
and one received this week--and on these two
cds [different versions of master] themselves
is stamped: "CCM-316-2" . The two cd plastic
jewel cases both have this "CCM-316-2" as well.

The current Collector's choice catalogue [both
paper copy mailed to me in Jan. & on their web site]
give a catalogue # of WWCCM0316x (which appears to
be different but is really not [as you will see below].

To make matters even more confusing--older paper
CC catalogues received by me in Sept. and Nov.
(but subsequently thrown away by me--unfortunately)
had catalogue numbers 'like' YYCCM0316x or KKCCM0316x.

I know the first 2 catalogue letters were different
because I wrote an e-mail to Philip [may not have
sent it though?] in which I remarked to Philip on
how these first 2 letters had changed so *maybe*
this meant that they had now issued the "correct"
master.

I just got off the phone with two of CC 's customer
service people--very nice, friendly people; however,
as I suspected, they don't have a clue about any
of this---and maintain the catalogue #s were always
the same!

The second guy said the little "x" at the end,
after "x" after 316 is just short (i.e., alternate
code) for a "2", both of which designate its a cd
and not an LP or cassette. He said he'd have someone
e-mail me next week, but at this point I'm pretty
sure they will maintain that there's no way to
tell the difference without listening to the cds
themselves.

This actually makes sense from a practical point of
view for CC since it would cost them $ to retool the
cd template-stamped info, some liner notes' info,
jewel case info, etc. instead of just using the old
templates. Also, don't think they really want to call
any more attention to their mistake of releasing the
'wrong' master than they have to.

However, all is not lost; there are 2 ways to tell if
you have the 'correct' version of the cd:

a) If you purchased it by mail-order from CC before
January 2003, then it's **definitely** the 'wrong'
version, i.e., if you *received* it via mail-order in
Jan. 2003 even if you ordered it in Dec. 2002 [like
I did], OR if you order it in, e.g., tomorrow or in
three weeks), OR you bought it in store after
it's retail release of Jan. 21 and it has Collector's
Choice name on it, THEN it's the 'correct' version.

b) Go to MM List archives and listen to Philip and me
rant about the differences between the original TV's first
solo album and Jap./German cd of same compared to
the first CC cd release. The differences are especially
noticeable on "Grip of Love", "Souvenier From A Dream",
and "Flashlightning" ****[if no organ on Flashlightning
THEN YOU HAVE 'wrong' version of the cd]*****.

Did I just make you more confused, Henry?

Leo,

Is there any obvious differences in the packaging or
catalog number to distinquish the incorrect mix
from the correct mix. I know I brought the CC
cd with the incorrect mix, but if I get the
correct mix is there a way to
distinquish them without listening to the
two, so we know from the outside
which is which, besides making our own mark/label
or something to tell them
apart.

Henry
