Sad indeed, I like his music too -- particular the title "Either/Or" and its connotation to Kierkegaard.
Although single self-inflicted stab wound to the chest is not a particularly "chicken-shit" way to go -- single stab wound!  Pretty amazing actually.

Elliot Smith dead. Alleged suicide. A total waste. I really liked his music.
Suicide seems to be such a chicken-shit way to go. Maybe I don't know the
