(TV) Verlaine's Input to "Scary Monsters..." Revisited / Christmas O ffer

At the risk of beating this subject to death, I want to make a

comment, question, and offer (although the trading or giving away

of cd-rs is not permitted on this list I hope that an exception will be

made given the momentous revelation below).

About 10 days ago, Philip wrote:

"...Interestingly, the article states that Bowie had originally hired Adrian
Belew to play all of the lead guitar parts on SCARY MONSTER,
but after paying him, Bowie never called him to show up for the sessions
(Belew had played on Bowie's previous LP and tour).
Instead, according to Belew, Bowie first tried to use Tom Verlaine to
play *all* lead guitar parts - not just on "Kingdom Come", as I had
previously thought. "

Last night I was reading the Special Mojo Bowie Edition that Philip
was nice enough to send me, and I saw the Belew passage that Philip
summarizes above. I want to emphasize that part of what Belew actually
is quoted as saying: "...ex-Television guitarist Tom Verlaine
**took a swing at most of the tracks. But it didn't
work****[emphasis added by me] **. Only his stodgy[!] composition,
'Kingdom Come' remains as lucrative reward for his efforts."

This seems totally at odds with the info/version of these sessions that
were discussed on MM List over the years, namely, that TV wanted to buy
a million guitars for the Bowie recording session, and showed up (or wanted to hire)
several other guitarists --only to be thrown out by Bowie for doing so.
This would seem to imply that TV never played a single note on Bowie's album.

Could Belew be mistaken? Could Belew have gotten his version from Bowie
(since Belew, although paid, never was present at these sessions)?

The answer is no; Belew's (or/and Bowie's) version is true.

Through sources that I can not reveal at this time, (and after
paying a small fortune), I now have in my possession a 2nd generation
copy of all of the "Scary Monster ...." versions of the songs on which
Verlaine played.

Think of the following offer as Christmas arriving early:
To the first five MM Listers who can answer the two questions
below correctly, I will send right away a cd-r copy of these songs
before I send my master to the "Carried Away" site Administrators
(i.e., the Television-group List) in early April.

1) What are the only songs that TV ever played live from 1981 - 1990,
which were also performed by Television?

2) Complete this lyric:
"I've been given a fortune/ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ /
so spoke Laura/as she closed her eyes"
