(TV) Waaay off topic

I recently finished David Eggers' "You Shall Know Our
Velocity" and I just don't get it.  While enjoying his
style (for awhile) & sort of catching the end where he
joins another family who is a metaphor for his lost
family I'm not really sure what the point was, or is
