(TV) Empty Glass and jerks

Thanks for the context on this, I've always wondered who this song was about. Empty Glass remains a damn fine album.

Yep.
She and her dumb husband (in their roles of hip young jerks - they 'wrote' the dreadful "The Boy Looked at Johnny" - http://tinyurl.com/3u28b) did an interview where they ranted on about nothing much and ended by saying that the only album they really played was the soundtrack to "Oklahoma" (oh, how radical!) Hence Townshend's Oklahoma reference at the end of the song.

NME must have kept her on as a wind-up.

They did, until people just got bored with her endless vacuous ranting. But, just to prove that The Scum Also Rises, she moved on to writing newspaper columns (in newspapers who wanted something "controversial" in between the car ads and the latest news about Princess Di) and the rotten novels, and her ex-husband moved on to being the wide-boy-yob-culture-pundit invited onto late-night literary shows to talk about books twenty times better than his own crap efforts.
