(TV) Easy To Play?

Verlaine once said his songs should be 'easy' for others to play.

I can't find my year-old post on this (and my cd-r of it is just single
track of 45 minutes so I'd have to listen to entire thing), but in a 1982
radio promo interview, Verlaine was telling a story about how *relatively*
simple his music is to play, but how before he found Jimmy Ripp he was
having guitarists in to audition and they'd look at him in disbelief and say
they couldn't reproduce the parts he asked them to play. TV said something
to the interviewer like: the hard part is putting the notes and spaces
*where* they should go more than the actual playing itself.

I'm butchering the interview, does anyone remember?

It still plays with my head that they'd heard me make a shambles out
of their music.
