(TV) Tom Verlaine, the acoustic guitar totin' yuckster

Listening to the Slims boot. That Tom Verlaine keeps his audience in stitches, while stumming folk songs and country songs on his acoustic guitar. Kind a like a noir Jim Page ( the Seattle folkie not the english rocker ), singing Johnny Cash and talkin' Johnny Horton. What's the story about the acoustic Verlaine? Why doesn't this man play unplugged more often ?
