Re: (TV) More on CBGBs, and Television at #2

I am one of the 'musicians' that was directly influenced by the punk DIY attitude that came around in the late 70's.
I took guitar lessons in 1974, so I could 'play like Keith Richards', so perhaps I was a little 'punk' before I heard of the Ramones, Patti, Pistols et al. (if you accept that the Stones were the original 'bad boys of RnR')
I was on LI, NY at the time, and went to Manhattan to hear that stuff.
I immediately started songwriting, lo fi home taping, and generally annoying my Boston and ELO loving friends with my wierd noise poetry crap.

Am I influenced by Television? Perhaps; not by emulation as much as a desire to be that good.

I spent countless hours trying to be 'as good' as many of my guitar idols - and eventually switched to bass.
At least I can sing and play at the same time.

One other comment about influences - I read about my hero's influences, and then seek out that music. I thought that I could somehow channel that into creating something as good as what my heroes could do. - LSS, it hasn't worked yet, but I have discovered some excellent music along the way.

I do listen to entire Ramones records in one sitting (esp. #1 and 2), and leave a disc in the truck for several days at a time.

wow, that's a lot for me to write
