I set up a myspace account so I could check out what was happening with
my son's band. Sure, this could (and has been) used by perverts, but
so has regular IM, and basic chatrooms like Yahoo's, and even the telephone.

Myspace is no more inherently evil than any of those. Just make sure your
kids know how to keep themselves safe and private there! I was reading one
young woman's blog yesterday, and she'd put up a copy of her arrest report
(for driving w/o a license) which included her full name and address along
with other info that shouldn't have been posted. Ot-nay oo-tay ight-bray
in my opinion, and it spurred a conversation at home about the net.

I'm extremely fortunate in that I've been able to instill a complete sense
of paranoia in my son. He learned from an early age that I know all and
see all on his computers. Now that extends out to his chats and forum posts.
