If you measure  importance by either record sales or stylistic influence, the
Feelies might as  well have never existed. And yet the cultish North  Jersey
combo endures, its music surprisingly untainted by the  passing years.
Attesting to cofrontman Glenn Mercerbs skill, his first solo  album, Wheels
in
Motion, feels both true to his old work and suspended in time.  Paradoxically
perhaps, this sense of fluid, organic continuity hangs on Mercerbs
self-effacing
vocals and weightless guitar lines.
Wild Carnation  features Brenda Sauterblike the headliner, an ex-Feelie and
part of the old  Hoboken-area indie-ground. Her band represents that scenebs
legacy proudly, with  one winning pop strum after another, a sound that could
maybe even save your  life.
