Re: The End of World Is Imminent! / RE: (TV) Tom mention on TV

yes, thanks dennis. my girlfriend actually likes this show, so i'm a viewer.
and i have noticed that they try to hip it up with musical references -- but
usually the references are exceedingly un-hip. i seem to remember ray
lamontagne or some such. anyway, they finally hit their target (the 12 of
us).

lauren graham, who is in parenthood, used to be in gillmore girls -- a show
that really did make hip musical references. big star, VU, even the shaggs.
and i remember at least one discussion about the need to consider jackson
browne's work with nico, apart from everything else he did. music geekdom was
well represented in that series.

One might take the European financial crisis/meltdown and daily
environmental disasters around the world as a sign that the end could be
coming.

However, when I saw that the U.S. popular tv-show, "Parenthood" had
a 1-minute or so piece on Tom Verlaine/Television and his/their music woven
into a fictional episode of the show's script, I decided that there no
longer was any doubt in my mind: it's a true sign, stronger than any
'Rapture' warning: the end of the world is imminent!

I guess a less dire way to view the incorporation of the piece and its
characters' dialogue into show, was that some hip screenwriter for the
tv-show decided to have a little fun.

So, Dennis, thanks for posting the link to that episode of the show.

Leo

A friend of the band told me about this Verlaine mention on this network TV
show called Parenthood. At 13.40 with David Byrne playing on the radio. It
was good to see them talking about Tom and Television.
