Re: (TV) MM fadeout / digital fadeout?

The first version I ever knew was the viinyl fade-out one, & I agree with
those saying they thought it sounded deliberately done to fit the song, as if
to suggest the song's starting over again instead of ending. It was surprising
to later read a Tom interview where he said they had to fade the song early so
it would fit on the album, 'cause I'd always thought they'd done it
deliberately for a different reason. Maybe they did do it also partly 'cause
they thought it sounded good with the fade out, as some commenter suggested
here. But Television played the song live regularly for years before Marquee
Moon was recorded, always with a definite, even flashy ending with an impact,
onstage. One might even say the ending was an important part of the song to
complete the "epic" in the stage version. Plus an earlier studio version was
recorded (Eno demos) with no fade-out. And the fade-out recording did have a
definite ending as recorded in the studio, as we
learned when the CD came out. So, the fade-out version can't very well be
considered the original, truer, or more authentic version of the song. It's
more like the fade-out was an aberration of the song that happened to sound
pretty good! I don't have a strong preference for one over the other, but it's
interesting having the two versions, I like both, & agree both should be
made available on CD releases.

fadeout?

I had hoped they would include the "fadeout" version on the MM CD
vinyl
replica disk a few years back. I haven't heard it, but to the best of my
knowledge, this version has never made it to CD...

Of course, there are
people like me who first heard "Marquee Moon" in the CD era -- the "uncut"
ending has always sounded right, but I can see the appeal of the early fade...

Not as far as I know, Leo
