I've done a number of interviews with musicians, and if this had been me,
I'd have been too embarrassed to ever let it see the light of day. He's
not prepared, and knows precious little about his subject, Neon Boys
reference notwithstanding.

One of the best interviews I ever did was with Adrian Belew, mostly because
of two things: First, I had some time with the band before AB showed up,
and his sax player Bill Janssen had time to look over my list and cross off
every "What was it like working with Zappa/Bowie/Fripp"-type question I
had, and push me to asking the questions like "What's your fascination
with trains?" (based on the fact that he had a great song about a train on
each of his two albums).

The other thing was that when he came in and said to the band in a clearly
sad voice "I'll see you after the interview," I asked if I could interview
the band as a whole, and he came alive. "No one else has ever wanted to
talk to the band!" His drummer at the time was Larrie London, who was a
Nashville drummer who had worked for Elvis Presley for years, and had some
fantastic and always relevant anecdote.

This guy broke rule #1 - listen to what the interviewee is saying!!!

That said, given the chance to interview Tom, I'm not sure I'd do it.
