Re: (TV) "Lady From Shanghai" / Censorship in Media?

Fred told me they did one piece from Around. But they did LLJ, Persia, and I think Prove it also, all recognizable. Also I think I recognized one of Tom's solo records. But on the whole there was no stuff except for the Around piece that Fred wasn't on originally.

Emilie,

RE: I will look in the Chinese media (as I can read Chinese).

That would be great.

Re: It was really quite magical. As advertised, it was all instrumental but
no word was necessary.

Did you recognize anything from Tom's all instrumental album, "Around", or
any quasi-Music For Film pieces? Or was it all brand new stuff?

Leo

I will look in the Chinese media (as I can read Chinese).

Just came back from the show at Skirball. It was really quite magical. As
advertised, it was all instrumental but no word was necessary.

Yikes!

Does anyone know if Chinese newspapers in their larger cities like
Shanghai
are accessible via the Internet, or are such Chinese media (official or
otherwise) impossible to access via the Internet because of State
censorship? 3 Cheers to anyone who can find a working link to their show
in
Shanghai.

To be honest I don't think it was Tom's idea to do it as an instrumental
gig, I think they were hired to do it that way. It would be much easier
to
just do a regular set for them, especially since they have been gigging
so
much
lately. They were in Shanghai recently, they are really getting around.

thanx for the heads up.

A shame if they don't do a regular set...that is the point of the
concept.

But we all know that Tom will do what he wants!!

From what I heard, don't expect a regular set. I didn't get many details
but met a member of the band for dinner on Tuesday and he confirmed it
is
an instrumental
set. Let's see if this post shows up. Many of mine don't show up, or if
there do it is a day or two later.

Went to the Wye Oak show at NYU Skirball Hall tonight, part of the
Joshua
Light Show residency (6 shows, 6 bands, 3 nights). The venue is a
beautiful auditorium. JLS projects on a 25 foot square screen. The
band
played a normal 75 minute set of songs. (For those interested, Wye Oak
is
an indie duo out of Baltimore, a bit shoegazy, and fun). The concept is
a
tribute to JLS as the house light show at the Fillmore East in 68 and
69,
with various bands chosen as counterpoint to the light show.

So unless someone knows something directly from Tom and the boys, I
would
expect tomorrow night's show to be a regular Television set. The show
started at 7:35, so if you are going...be prompt.

Looking forward to the show!! (I do still have that extra ticket, but
that
is NOT the purpose of this post)
