For myself, not so much being born Catholic as being raised Catholic.  You
kind of have to be there, but let's just say that the atmosphere of
repression, shame, thought control, terror, and all those men wearing
dresses (kind of like the current administration) caused me (and nearly
everyone else I went to Catholic grade and high school with) to become
devout ex-Catholics at some point - for me it was around 9th grade.  For
further insight into the Irish Catholic experience, read Frank McCourt's
"Angela's Ashes," followed by a viewing of Ken Russel's "The Devils."
