Re: (TV) Hell v. Lloyd

I think you may have misunderstood me.
I've been listening to Love for thirty or so years. I never questioned his talent. "Forever Changes" is a wonderful disc. I was questioning what the hell Arthur Lee had done in his creative life to be of any consequence since the late sixties.
Also, when it comes to junkies obviously it's a disease both physical and social but that doesn't mean I can't hate it. I don't think having been a junkie on the Lower East side in the seventies is a prerequisite for grandeur. I believe all I've been saying so far is that with the benefit of time we can see that most of those "talents" belong in the dustbin.
As far as Carlucci is concerned he has a vested interest whereas I don't. I don't earn a living selling records and he does which is fine. But I am slightly more removed living on the West Coast and my passions maybe different. I do believe that Carlucci takes everything very literally. Therefore, in the future I will try to coach my comments.

Unless I'm missing something, the whole point is that JPG believes certain untalented hacks or one trick ponies are held in too high of esteem by fans and that the heroin chic might have something to do with that. While Lloyd may have been a junkie for a while, there should be little dispute that he is also a tremendous talent who has "been through a field of fire" and lived to be relevant and significant right now--something no one can say about Hell with a straight face! I think the real point is that Hell is a hack and I don't disagree with that point. I do, however, disagree with JPG's suggestion that Arthur Lee was a three chord wonder with little talent. Arthur Lee was brilliant. So, I agree with the larger point, and agree with its particular application to Hell but disagree with it's particular application to Arthur Lee. And, Mr. C, I don't think there is !
