(TV) Madonna and Patti Smith

Today's NY Times (Sunday, March 20) mentions that Madonna had originally
planned to use Patti Smith's "Easter" as the theme song of her new film, "The
Next Best Thing", but had switched to "American Pie" at Rupert Everett's
insistence - apparently, Rupert felt the point of the scene (not having seen it
myself, but apparently "American Pie" is played at a funeral) could be made
more strongly by using a well-known 'classic' song.

Still, I bet Patti Smith is missing the royalties a Madonna/Orbit cover would
have brought!

Today's NY Times also has a good, positive review of the Stooges FUNHOUSE box
set, complete with a photo (the poster from the box).
