Hey, new thread (was Re: (TV) Just checking...)

Here and swamped. I've been working on the cover, which should be done by
the deadline. But, apart from answering email, I've been crushed with
work.

NP: Quine/Maher: Basic. ("Bluffer" rocks seriously, btw.)

To tie a couple things together, the NP: thing ("Now playing") is fairly
often used on the John Zorn list, which I read but only rarely post
to...except on Friday, when someone passed along the notice of the upcoming
TV soundtracks show in Richmond (or did it just happen?). I broke my
silence to point people to the reviews on the Santa Dog site.

New thread: Who among bands currently playing gives you the greatest hope
for the future of rock (for lack of a better word)? Obscure is fine, but
I'm thinking mainly of people someone could reasonably expect to see live
in the near future (on tour or in their hometown). Recent promising groups
(seen at the same show, btw): We Are Vikings (college kids from Virginia
with _very_ singable tunes and harmonies) and Papa M (David Pajo, ex-Slint
and Tortoise). And to wave my fan flag high again, Joel Phelps and the
Downer Trio also (soul-cleansing rock from the newest CD, _Blackbird_,
great live show).

So who's doing it for you?
