Re: (TV) Vinyl v. cd

I think the chance of a remaster is slim, but we can still email and bug Rhino
or Rhinohandmade to pick these up. It might help if the band had some interest
in pushing them, but that seems unlikely.

I found MARQUEE MOON on CD first and I really miss the ending of the title
track when I hear the vinyl. I think the CD transfer is, in general, pretty
faithful; the only problems (as I've noted before) are the patches of static
present in both "Venus" and "Friction". You can tell this CD was the source for
the Japanese best-of and THE MILLER'S TALE, because those both suffer the same
sonic faults...

In general, while I acknowedge that there have been thousands of bad CD
reissues of back catalog material, I think the compact disc is unnecessarily
badmouthed. Well-done CD reissues sound fine, the sound doesn't deteriorate
upon the first playing like vinyl or tape, they've got more room for extra
material (or even multimedia), etc. The problem is mainly the material
(vinyl-EQed production masters, badly-stored tapes, etc.), not the medium. I
guess I'm firmly in the "midfi" camp.

I've never heard ADVENTURE on vinyl... CD sounds OK to me, but I've got nothing
to compare it with.
