Hey, Philip! Welcome back!

Drunkest performer? Easy. Root Boy Slim. Actually puked and passed
out midway through song #2. The band just shrugged, put down their
instruments and left him there.

A close second (only because he neither puked nor passed out, but should
have) was Jaco Pastorius, who arrived without a bass or band, and havintg
borrowed a bass, slurred into the mic that it was his son's birthday and
"played" Happy Birthday for almost an hour.

He showed up the next morning (Sunday) at the radio station I worked at
and said he was "ready for the interview." Fortunately there was a jazz
show happening then, so they faked an interview (Jaco mostly mumbled
and swore), and then they tried to shepherd him to the train station.
On the way, he saw the car owned by one of the DJs, an old restored
Volvo (think The Saint). Immediately enamored of the car, he asked if
he could take it for a spin. Amazingly, the DJ handed over the keys to his
precious car! 90 seconds later, it was firmly embedded in the trunk of a
stalwart old tree, and Jaco came shambling back, looking for a ride to the
train station.
