Re: (TV) OT: Only Ones "Remains"

The sound is not great on my copy, but I put that down to it being a
load of demos rather than a proper album. On the other hand, I've got a
vinyl bootleg which has the same version of 'Silent Night' on it, and
the boot sounds a lot better than the CD.
I still find it hard to believe that the bulk of the material on Remains
is late-period Only Ones -- to me it still sounds much earlier, like
transitional material between the time when they were called England's
Glory (and played dodgy Lou Reed / Bob Dylan pastiches), and the first
Only Ones album. Also, a number of the tracks on Remains have Glenn
Tilbrook on guitar, who was a member of the Only Ones in their early
days. 'Silent Night' and 'Baby's Got A Gun' are clearly third-album
out-takes, but the rest...
Perrett's solo LP is great, isn't it? The guitarist is no John Perry and
the keyboard player is annoying, but the songs are as good as ever.
Especially 'Law Of The Jungle' and 'Shivers'. There's an album of the
same band playing live, which is worth a listen too -- although it's not
a vintage performance, it has a couple of unreleased songs, and a
version of 'Daughter', which is great too.
Incidentally, if you don't already have it, the best Only Ones album by
miles IMO is the live album on Mau Mau records -- I think it's a
recording of one of their final gigs, and it rocks big-time.
I wonder when we can expect the next Perrett comeback?
