I've seen some pictures of Allan Holdsworth where his fingers cover 5  or 6 
frets in an ungodly fashion, so I would guess that big hands, as long as 
they do what you want them to, would probably help a guitarist.  Although 
I've known lots of small-handed guitar players, including my brother, who 
manage just fine.
