(TV) Fleiger et al not on TV 1st tour?/Ms Secret X

Dennis,

Now you , of course, actually know TV and other members of Television , but unless you are referring to some one-night only event (in NYC?) , I am pretty darn sure that Jimmy Ripp was the only other guitarist who played with Tom ON Tom's first solo TOUR. I was following Tom (figuratively and somewhat literally) back then from tour appearances in Boston in Oct 1981 to Northampton and NYC in Nov. 1981. Now I realize that this tour in 1981 was just after Tom's 2nd solo record had come out, but I don't believe there ever was an earlier tour in 1979 or 1980 for the 1st solo.

Back in 1981, I had always wondered if Tom toured earlier in (1979-1980) to support his 1st solo record, but my painstaking research back then of the phrases "Tom Verlaine" and "Television" in research libraries' indices for NY Times, The Village Voice, Reader's Guide to Periodicals, NY Rocker issues, other library sources, etc., turned up no live performances by Tom from the final Television performance at end of July 1978 until the fall of 1981.

Yes, Richie Fliegler, Bruce Brody and Ricky Wilson all played on 1st solo record, but to my knowledge never on his 1st solo Tour (or 2nd or 3rd or 4th solo tours). There exist several interviews in Sept-Oct 1981 (The NY Times, Rolling Stone, The Village Voice, and others) in which the writers and Tom talk about how it's his first live playing in 2 years and something (I think) about how he couldn't get Elektra to spring for paying for a band to take on the road after his 1st solo record came out in 79-80, etc., etc., but how now Warner Brothers was giving him money to pay for a band on tour.

On the other hand, you have been rading all of the above from the very same guy who swore a few days ago on the List that TV was at most 6' 1"! So maybe I'm wrong again, but I don't think so.

Hate to keep grilling you with trivial questions, Ms Secret X (I'll send you a real e-mail one of these days) but can you confirm or deny my claim about when Tom's first Tour after July 1978 was?

		Leo

Sorry, that was supposed to be Richie Fliegler, who played in John Cale's
band and with Bruce Brody (Brodie?) later Patti Smith's keyboardist. They
both walked off stage after Cale bit the head off a live chicken, I believe.
