(TV) Not Fade Away--pulled from the internet

Marquee Moon * Television (1977, Elektra) Their first album and an
acknowledged classic. This album was one of the best to come out of the
whole punk movement. (Television's stage apparel of ripped t-shirts predated
the London punk movement by some years, and was spotted by Malcolm McLaren
on a trip to New York long before the Sex Pistols were conceived.) Not just
Tom Verlaine's finest moment, but also co-guitarist Richard Lloyd. Fred
Smith (bass) and Billy Ficca (drums) also put in immaculate performances.
The title track is one of greatest songs in rock history and I love the way
the guitar sparkles and dances delicately after the climax of the long
instrumental break. "See No Evil" is a superb opener and "Venus" is their
second finest moment with has great lyrical depth AND makes you smile.
"Guiding Light" is so beautiful - pretty, almost. Great cover photo by
Robert Mapplethorpe. Two complaints about the CD: (1) why did they leave out
the double quotes on the title? (of course it's important!), and (2) why on
earth did they muck about with the ending of the title track? (It SHOULD
fade out...)
