Re: (TV) pixies b-sides...

I have a boot CD called THE B-SIDE FILE THIRD EDITION, which collects all the
b-sides on the new CD plus a bunch of non-LP tracks that weren't technically
b-sides, either (like "I Can't Forget" from the Leonard Cohen tribute, or "Born
in Chicago" from some sampler, or 2 live tracks from a UK single) which
unfortunately aren't on the new disc.

Regardless, for people who liked the bulk of the Pixies' output, the tracks on
the new CD are essential - it's high time we got a 'collected' release. The two
Neil Young covers alone are fantastic, and so are originals like "Into the
White", "Wave of Mutiliation (UK Surf version)", and "Make Believe". Then
there's some 'interesting' stuff, like an early (demo?) version of "The
Happening" called "The Thing", a few good songs (with great riffs) that feel
half-finished ("Dancing the Manta Ray"), and - possibly weirdest of all - a
Spanish-language cover of "Evil Hearted You" (the Yardbirds song!). The first
time I heard this, I had NO idea it was in Spanish, and was... surprised.

If you're a fan who liked at least part of each of their five albums (if not
everything), then you'll find at least half a dozen tracks you'll love on this.
It's much more worthwhile than the last two archival releases (the BBC disc and
the Hits/Live 2CD).
