RE: (TV) no ATP broadcast of Television!?!

I don't know why I thought of this now but I've always wondered: since
Television was never, say commercially successful, how does Tom V. feed
himself (or does he eat)? Did he work for a law firm? Computer guy? Waiter?
Trust fund? I don't imagine he eats ramen noodles and collects bottles. I
don't see how three concerts every ten years can sustain a livelihood.
Anybody know? Was Richard Hell really an air conditioner repairman?
