(TV) Seattle Coda

So Tuesday I'm squiring my visiting sister around the shoe stores of
Seattle. I meet a woman in a clog shop wearing EMP access badges. I
mention how happy I was to see Television play there. Her response: "Oh,
they were REAL picky!" How so, I ask? "Like when the guy asked them to
turn off the slide swirlies." I point out that the lighting during that
number (which had a very heated interchange of fours between Tom and
Richard) often left the upper parts of the musicians in Total Darkness,
which may foster the accidental miracle but is usually as disorienting as
hell when you don't know it's coming. "Oh, yeah, maybe...a lot of people
came out of the woodwork for that."

Anyway, after I stopped slamming the heel of my hand into my head (I was in
a shoe store, remember), I thought of a couple of things from the EMP show I
didn't mention:
Tom taking the lead figure under the outro of "Glory" and stretching it out
into a Yardbirdsy coda.
Richard starting his riff on Marquee Moon a verse too early, cutting off,
and Tom filling the remaining beats with a little flourish - I mean, it was
telepathic...
Richard's rock star move - playing the MM riff with ONE downstroke per
measure - the rest was all hammers and pulls...
How genuinely happy Tom seemed that we DID come out of the woodwork.
Those of you going to LA - I hope it turns out even better.
