i saw the pretenders in 81 but he def. didn't open (this was rochester,
ny)...may have been 82....if memory serves, nick lowe opened (or maybe he
was the opener for the cars round the same time?)....
i've never caught vega live, but the vids i've seen blow me away & i wasn't
joking when i said he was a major inspiration...the dude melded heavy
performance art with rock & roll, helped created a landmark record
(suicide's debut) & came up with the greatest song title ever: "rock & roll
is killing me"
