(TV) Strokes

I finally heard the Strokes - one song, riff was from Bowie's 'Modern Love'
and the singer sounded like the son of the president of Elite Models (why is
that?). I don't know why anyone would say they sound like a 1970s NYC band.
They sound like a 90s band like the Dandy Warhols or maybe Jonathan
Fire-Eater. Whatever happened to J F-E anyway?
