You are some iconoclast Racer X. I thought it was virtually impossible to
grow up on Long Island and dig Bolan. When I was a tyke I had trouble
convincing my friends about this David Bowie! Then I was taken to task once
that Let's Dance video hit MTV. "No really, his older stuff is ... " forget
about it. My playmates prefered Bryan Adams Summer of '69. They could really
get behind that. And Jack and Diane. And Photograph. When Livin' On A Prayer
was released, watch out. Subtlety never had a prayer. My punk alienation got
to the point where I created my own bus stop. I couldn't wait for the school
bus with these people so I waited down the block in my black topcoat with
the pins etc. Me and this mohawked wrestler who listened to BOC and
worshiped Belushi would play Have You Heard?

Incidentally, I had the pleasure once to share a bill with Rolan Bolan. His
voice sounds a lot like his dad. He should be a big star, but I guess the
kids at the bus stop still rule.
