(TV) Bolan

I love Bolan, he is absolutely brilliant. He might not be a lyricist like
Bob Dylan or Leonard Cohen, but he does sound remarkably true sometimes in
his own "goofy" way. For example, in Cosmic Dancer, when he sings "I was
dancing when I was eight / Is it strange to dance so late ... I danced
myself into the tomb / Is it strange to start so soon" -- it's a brilliant
insight, one's always either too young or too late to start art. Spaceball
Ricochet is a funny allusion to pinball machines -- living one's live like a
ball in a pinball machine -- in a crazy, silly, and goofy sexual way -- the
end of the song alludes to someone playing a pinball machine or (obviously
doing something that mimics a man playing a pinball machine). My favorite
is Dandy in the Underworld, when he compares himself to Apollo ("Born with
steel reins on the heart of the sun").
