Yes, I have to agree. As thrilled as I was with the NY shows, I was somewhat disappointed in Richard's playing, for the reasons Jeff well describes. Kind of surprising, given how dedicated Richard seems to have been to improving his musicianship. My vague memory of the Academy show I attended in 1992, where I was struck by how much of the soloing was by Richard, was that the solos were better structured.
