(TV) Stickers & other details / Happy Ending? / NJ shore

>1.How hard would it have been to put a sticker
>that says "New Issue!" on the jewel case?
>(It might even help stores sales, if CC distributes
> to any stores.). Seems like a lot of the new CDs
>I buy have some damn sticker or other on the
>jewel case. It wouldn't have cost much. But no.

There actually is a sticker on Jan 21, 2003 cd
jewel cases, but it reads (& I'm paraphrasing)
"Fabulous first solo cd by the leader of Television,
etc., " There was a similar but definitely different
sticker on the 2002 version--so yes they could have
said "New Issue".

I think they were quite embarrassed by the whole mistake,
and someone high-up made a decision that mentioning it
on sticker would hurt sales [though agree probably just
the opposite true]

>2.This means that CC cannot even sort out its own
>stock if it gets >mixed, except by the label on
>the carton that comes back from the presser. Yikes!

I'm fairly sure they won't get mixed up because
a very reliable source informed me that all unsold
first version copies and all customer-returns of same
will be dumped into the Atlantic ocean 7 miles off the
shore of New Jersey by airplane in very near-future.

>3.Not only that, now they couldn't recall the wrong
>CDs from stores even if they wanted to, or if they
>were required to by a court. (I cynically suspect
>this is one reason they did it this way.)

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but it is my
understanding that the 'wrong' CC version was never
sold in retail stores but only through CC mail-order
catalogue. [Do you recall for sure Philip?]

This might surprise some, but I am quite pleased with
how the whole episode finally turned out. Just imagine if
CC had either refused to acknowledge their 'mistake' and
never re-issued the 'correct' version (or never offered
to swap the first version to any customer who wanted
to return it)?

Yes, it's stupid and it's a drag not to not have
an easy and explicit way (on cover or inside jewel
case) of distinguishing between the 2 cds (and its
always a pain to snail-mail back something to a
company). But this way some of us fans get to
have two different versions of the original LP.

As Keith say s on his site: "If CC choice pull the
unsold copies and reissue the "correct" mix then I
guess we have an instant collectors' item here."
